Paula Sanders Steel, the owner of Running Deer Retreat is also an artist. She is a native of Danville, Arkansas and has also lived in Little Rock, Ar., Lawton, Ok., and Dallas, Tx. She returned to
Daville in 2001 to her family home and opened Running Deer Retreat. Working artists come here to teach in all mediums.
She holds a 2 year business degree from Arkansas Tech University. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Art from Cameron University, Lawton, Ok. in l988.
She has studied under many well-known artists and also at the Art Institute of Dallas. She works in oil, pastel and watercolor and also teaches drawing and watercolor. She is a member of the
Arkansas League of Artists, Mid Southern Watercolorist, Artists of Northwest Arkansas, and Conway League of Artists. Her work hangs at The Frame Shop in Russellville, Arkansas.
Artist Statement regarding landscape painting:
"It is impossible to paint a perfect picture of God's creation, but it is more important to strive to paint our impression of it."
