Kelly Hargis (Oil)
April 8, 9, and 10, 2011

Ray "Kelly" Hargis is a product of far west Texas and New Mexico where his family was in the ranching business. He began drawing pictures of animals at an early age and was fortunate to have a grade school classmate who liked to draw. This was during World War 11 so Kelly and his friend had a lot of fun creating military scenes as well as cowboy and indian images.

Following high school he attended Texas Tech University where he earned a degree in Agriculture. He married and relocated to Arkansas along with most of his family. Kelly went to work for the Arkansas Farm Bureau and retired after 40 years.

About 35 years ago he began painting and found oil to be his favorite medium. Kelly took painting, at then, Little Rock
University and also studied painting at the Arkansas Art Center and participated in several workshops there.
He has found that hard work pays off.

Several years ago he began teaching oil painting for the Life Quest program in Little Rock. He also has several students, who come weekly to his home studio for oil painting lessons.

Kelly has had several one man slows and won numerous awards. He was asked to donate a painting for a national fund raising event in Chicago, Illinois several yeas ago. His painting, a western landscape, was the top seller of the event.

His paintings are available at his home studio, at special events and shows in the Little Rock area. He regularly participates in the Art Walk program on Main Street in North Little Rock. He can be contacted by phone or internet.

Bill Garrison (Oil)
October 27, 28, and 29, 2011

Living amidst the beautiful landscapes of Arkansas, Bill Garrison finds inspiration for his paintings literally in his own back yard. The majority of Bill's paintings include water. He does not have to travel far to search out a clear water creek, waterfall, pond or lake, that will become his next painting.

Bill and his wife Gloria were selected as the first Artists-In-Residence at Buffalo National River in 1996 and 1998 at Glacier National Park.

Bill's work has received many awards in local as well as in international competitions. He has consistently placed in the top 100 category for landscapes in the Art Renewal Center's International Salon Competition.Awards include "Best of Show" in the 2003-2004 Fine Arts of Arkansas competition and Exhibit at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock, Ar. "Best in Oil" in Artists of Northwest Arkansas 2006 competition.

Bill learned the basics of oil painting in his high school years from a professional artist in Texarkana. After a career in a non-related field he furthered his studies in painting with workshops from artists whose work inspires him, most notably, Richard Schmid. He says, "I consider Richard Schmid to be the best living artist of our time".

Bill says painting plein air {outdoors on location) is the best teacher of all. Bill says this forces him to paint more quickly and intuitively because of the constantly changing light. When painting in the studio he likes to work from studies he has done on location. Bill says if he paints using photographs as a reference, it is his goal to make it look like it was painted on location. Simplification of the subject and selective emphasis of certain elements of the painting are essential. "Having painted in many locations, I find that painting the Arkansas landscape is the most fulfilling of all."
