Skip Thompson (Oil)
October 15, 16, and 17

Skip Thompson is from Sulphur, Oklahoma. She has been painting for approximately 30 years and she's convinced that we never learn it all. Therefore, she started sharing her knowledge in workshops and classes four years ago. She believes that creating a good painting starts with good fundamentals. Skip teaches that one of the most important issues is to be able to view your subject through artist's eyes. This workshop is geared toward developing the ability to see and apply what you see using the right side of the brain. She states that "the difference between a great painting and a "so-so" painting is the ability to breath life into the piece.

Artist Statement: "Art is not simply a matter of putting color or design on canvas. It is an expression which creates a mood and awakens a viewers' senses. If a landscape, still-life, figure, animal or flower moves me with it's colors. shapes, shadows, contrast, lights, temperatures, or just gives me a "feeling", I want to paint it. I then set out to capture that certain element which initially intrigued me so that I can pass the experience on to you....the viewer. I cannot imagine my life without art and my artists friends....it is my "soul food".

Skips work can be viewed at the following galleries: Verner Fine Art Gallery, McAlester, Ok. The Colony, Amarillo, Tx., thegallery, Pauls Valley, Ok., Old Bank Gallery, Ada, Ok.
